WHAT IS IMPROVISATION? Improvisation is a specialized form of theatrical performance that requires spontaneity, respect, trust, & teamwork. It is the art of collaborating with partners to create a spontaneous unscripted piece of theatre based on 'audience' suggestions and participation. WHY The SUPER DUPERS? The SDs are committed to bringing arts & education to the community through the techniques of improvisational theater. We are professional performers and instructors - This IS our day job! It is our mission to provide quality theater through our performances, quality education through our educational programs, and quality training through our corporate development division. We give back to the community that supports us and we are darn good at what we do! WHY IMPROVISATION IN SCHOOLS? Because Improv is fun! In an educational environment, it is an excellent teaching tool that allows for active learning, requires respectful team- building, and 'levels the playing field' for learning levels. Our director worked as a full-time teacher in public schools, therefor, our programs are created with the knowledge that comes from that experience. Improvisation is active engaged learning at its best. WHY TAKE AN IMPROV CLASS OR WORKSHOP? We create a safe and comfortable environment and allow students to move at their own pace. We will challenge you to grow and learn through a series of games and exercises while promoting teamwork, making each other look good, and having fun. WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM IMPROVISATIONAL TRAINING? We teach skills that transcend the stage and are applicable to every day life. Therefore, regardless of age, performance experience, or type of training, everyone can benefit from what we do. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE 'REAL WORLD' SKILLS LEARNED THROUGH IMPROV? It can aid in public speaking, communication, team building, respect of other's ideas, personal boundaries, and creative risk taking. Students experience the benefits of teamwork and trust while learning to follow their instincts through spontaneity. WHY ATTEND AN IMPROV SHOW? Improvisational theater is a different experience every time you attend. Our actors are well trained, many in traditional scripted theater, improvisation, and musical theater. Improv shows are spontaneous, the actors are relying heavily on the audience, therefore it is engaging and interactive. Like any theater, there is good improv and not so good improv out there, so do some research before you go. WHAT IF I DON'T WANT TO GO ON STAGE DURING A SHOW? Improv is supposed to be fun and certainly enjoyable. Our objective, is to insure that everyone feel comfortable. We usually ask for volunteers and strive to call on those that want to participate. The SUPER DUPERS are trained to make others look good and take excellent care of our audience members that do volunteer. So, know that if you don't want to get up, we won't make you, but if you do decide to participate, we will make you and your ideas look great! I LIKE WHAT I SEE, HOW CAN I BE A SUPER DUPER? For now our company consists of ensemble members and invited guests. We are not currently holding auditions or hiring teachers. However, send us a resume and we'll gladly keep it on hand for future reference. WHAT SORTS OF VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES ARE THERE? You might be surprised what it takes to keep an organization like ours running. Volunteers are always needed and appreciated to help with p.r. /advertising, artwork, house management, box office, door staff, etc. The benefits for donating services and time include free passes to our shows, credit in publications, and our unending gratitude.
